Today we will discuss about an important business document named Bill of Lading. It is the most important document for a shipping consignment because without it anyone can’t release the goods.  If one can’t release the goods on time he can’t do any other works. So he will not make the payment. So all of your affords to go to the ruin. There are many types of Bill of Lading that is used for different purposes.

Bill of Lading is an acknowledgment receipt of goods given by the carriers. Once you get the receipt from the carrier you will be on the safe side. Now the responsibility of the goods goes to the importer. And then you can submit your documents to the bank for payment.

There are different types of bill of lading. Like

  1. Surrender Bill of Lading
  2. Bearer Bill of Lading
  3. Order Bill of Lading
  4. Straight Bill of Lading
  5. Short-term/ Blank Back Bill of Lading
  6. Stale Bill of Lading
  7. Forwarders Bill of Lading
  8. Multimodal Transport Document/ Combined Transport Document
  9. Charter Party Bill of Lading
  10. Master Bill of Lading
  11. House Bill of Lading
  12. Container Bill of Lading
  13. Claused Bill of Lading
  14. Through Bill of Lading

Like an Invoice & Packing List, a Bill of lading has some components. Those are:

1.      At first and at the top of the page there will be the name of the carrier and address. Then the Bill of lading number, the booking number.

2.      Then the 2nd part of the BL is the shipper will come with its name. Just below of the name as usual we will use the address.

3.      Consignee address, which will be the name of the Bank and its address.

4.      Notify Party and also Notify Party is the nominated person to receive the goods instead of the buyer. The address of the Notify and also notify party also will be written under their name.

5.      Pre Carrier and voyage details. Mother vessels and voyage details.

6.      Port of discharge, Place of delivery,

7.      Types of shipping modes.

8.      Then come to the goods information. Those are described accordingly:

 Invoice No. and Dt,

Sales Contract/ Export Contract or LC No. with Dt.

Exp No.  with Dt,

Gross weight & Net Weight

Order No.,

Style No.,

Customs Category & H.S code,

Customer,

PO No.,

Contract No.,

Delivery No.,

Item No.

Size No.

Carton Qty within words,

 

9.      At last, there will be Shipping Mark (Supplier :, Order No:, Line No:, Color No:, Destination:, Carton Measurement Carton No:, Size:, Contract No:, Gross W:, Net W., Pack Type)  All those Shipping Mark information are marked on the carton when it is shipped.

10.  There will be a part of Sipped on Board, where the sailing date will be placed

11.  At the bottom side, there will be a signatory part where the authorized person will sign with the company seal.

There will be variations in Invoices. It depends on the buyer. We have to prepare an Invoice as buyer sample, instruction & requirement.
